Competitions
Academy students engage in a wide variety of competitions, some as part of their Research and Problems requirement, and many others for enjoyment and the challenge. Success in a challenge is measured by competing and learning, not by winning. By that standard, every Academy student is successful!
UIL ACADEMIC AND ATHLETIC COMPETITIONS
Academy students compete for Oak Ridge High school in academic and athletic competitions, from science to basketball to theater. UIL no-pass, no play rules apply to all students representing the Academy in competitions.

OTHER SCIENCE EVENTS
Other science events include the Texas Junior Science and Humanities Symposium (TJSHS) in January and the NCSSSMST Research Symposium in June. Academy students are chosen by the faculty to participate in these events. Division winners of the TJSHS receive awards and advance to the national JSHS competition.
As a senior, the student may also enter two major research project competitions: the Siemens Westinghouse Competition and the Intel Science Talent Search - top awards in these two competitions are substantial.
