Research & Problems > Science Fair

A science fair research/engineering project can be the beginning of a competition odyssey towards college scholarships and cash awards.

The student first competes in the SCI://TECH Exposition Science Fair
in February. Then, if successful, may advance to the Science Engineering Fair of Houston in March, the ExxonMobil Texas Science and Engineering Fair in April, and the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in May. The Academy has had at least one student advance to the International Fair every year since 1992. It is possible to win a full-ride scholarship through these competitions.

As a senior, the student may also enter two major research project competitions: the Siemens Westinghouse Competition and the Intel Science Talent Search. Two Academy students were quite successful in these competitions in 2003 and won major cash awards.

Other opportunities include the Texas Junior Science and Humanities Symposium in January and the NCSSSMST Research Symposium in June. Academy students are chosen annually to participate in these events as well.
